Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls National Park Via Ziwa Rhino sanctuary.

Your 13 Days Rwenzori trekking Uganda Wildlife experience safari will begin with our guide picking you up from Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Entebbe. Thereafter transfer to Murchison falls national park via Kampala-Luwero-Masindi route. Have a stop at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary to track the white Rhinos in the wild. There after proceed to Murchison falls national park for an evening game drive depending on time of arrival in Murchison falls national park. Day 2: Game drive, Boat cruise on the Nile and top of the falls hike.

Have breakfast by 6am and thereafter proceed to the wilderness in search of the early morning raisers, the morning game drive starts at about 6:30am. Look out for animals such as; the giraffes, lions, hyenas, water bucks, elephants, buffalos, antelopes. Many species of birds such as; egrets, ibis, shoebill stock, marabou stock, king fisher, egrets to mention but a few. As you have your game drive, you may relax and have a picnic on the river bank as you listen to the groans of the Hippos. Murchison falls After the game drive, you will transfer to the lodge and enjoy your lunch. You may take packed lunch with as you prepare to have an afternoon boat cruise on the Nile River. This cruise is spectacular as you to get up close to the aquatic animals such as; the hippos, crocodiles, water bucks, buffalos, elephants etc. Among the birds commonly sighted on the boat cruise include the goliath heron, king fisher, weaver birds, bee eater, cattle egrets. Not forgetting the beautiful scenery along the bank. At the bottom of the falls, you will trek to the top of the falls or choose to take photos at the rocks below the falls. Day 3: Transfer  to Fort Portal.

After breakfast, transfer to Fort portal which is a 7 hours’ drive. En-route, enjoy the jaw dropping sceneries, landscapes and also have lunch preferably packed. Arrive and check in at your lodge in Fort portal and relax for the overnight stay. Accommodation options: Budget: Koi-Koi village, Kalya courts, Reinah Tourist Hotel Mid-range: Nyaika hotel.

Day 4: TRANSFER TO RWENZORI MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK GATE

Have an early morning breakfast and check out of your accommodation to begin your travel to Kasese. Begin your ascent of the Mountains of the moon via the central circuit trail. The drive takes 2 hours. Rwenzori mountain climbing via the central circuit trail starts at the Rwenzori Mountains National park Mihunga gate. Your driver guide will drive you to Mihunga gate for the trip briefing and organising your equipment. The trail begins by passing through farmland to the park boundary beyond which it follows a thick forest along the Mubuku River. Cross the Mahoma River tributary before starting a long, steep climb up onto a massive ridge to reach Nyabitaba hut. During this part of the trip you may hear chimpanzee and see black and white colobus, blue monkey and the brilliantly coloured Rwenzori turaco. Hike duration: 6 -7 hours. Elevation height: 1,036m

Day 5: NYABITABA (2651m asl.) – JOHN MATTE CAMP (3505m asl.)

From Nyabitaba follow the trail that drops down through the forest to the Kurt Shaffer Bridge, just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Passing through the bamboo forest, traverse through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. From the Nyamuleju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. Finally reach John Matte Hut after passing through the tiring bog, for dinner and overnight at the hut. Hike duration: 7 – 8 hours. Elevation height: 854m

Day 6: JOHN MATTE (3505m asl.) – BUJUKU CAMP (3962m asl.)

From John Matte Hut the trail drops down to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, the home of giant lobelias. Jumping from tussock to tussock, the bog is finally crossed but rarely without the feet sampling some of the freezing ooze below. The upper Bigo bog gives way to Bujuku Lake, with views of Mount Baker to the South and Mt Stanley to the West. Bujuku Hut, well located in the shadow of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, is set in a narrow valley below Stuhlmanns Pass. This camp is good for acclimatization for clients attempting the summits of peaks Mount Stanley and Mount Speke. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku hut. Hike duration: 4 – 5 hours. Elevation height: 457m

Day 7: BUJUKU (3962m asl.) – MT. SPEKE (4890m asl.) – BUJUKU (3962m asl.).

Early in the morning start the hike through stullmans pass (4192m asl.) and spectacular views of Virunga National park of DR Congo to Vittorio Emanuele peak (4890m asl). Ascend duration: 4 – 5 hours. Elevation height: 230m Prepare to descend back to Bujuku camp from Vittorio Emanuele with views of Bujuku valley and Bujuku lake, Margherita and Albert peaks on Mount Stanley and Mount Baker. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku Camp. Descend duration: 3 – 4hours.

Day 8: BUJUKU (3962m asl.) – ELENA CAMP (4541m asl.)

Leaving Bujuku camp, the trail takes you through more bog, while climbing the steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical forest of Groundsel Gully. Turn to your right up to Elena Hut just below Mount Luigi di Savoia. The trail on your left leads to Scott-Elliot Pass down to Kitandara Lakes camp. For those not climbing Margherita Peak, descend for an overnight at Kitandara camp. Those climbing the peak will have their Dinner and overnight at the coolly and Icy Elena Hut. Hike duration: 5 – 6 hours. Elevation height: 579m

Day 9: ELENA HUT (4541m asl.) –  MARGHERITA PEAK (5109m asl.) – KITANDARA CAMP (4430m asl.)

Wake up very early in the morning at 2am, you attempt climbing the highest peak, Margherita of Mount Stanley. To reach the summit of Margherita, the climb takes about 4 -5 hours. Depending on the weather conditions and the pace of climbing this mountain and at an ascent elevation of 568m. Rwenzori mountains trekking This tough walk takes you over three glaciers, slippery rock, ice and very exposed areas which are open on many sides. Climbing on to the glaciers, cross the Stanley Plateau and proceed with the ascent. Acclimatized to fog, altitude sickness and coolly weather, scramble up to the summit of Margherita the highest peak of the Rwenzori Mountains. The Descend from Margherita peak back to Elena Hut will take you about 2 – 3 hours. After your lunch at Elena hut, descend through Scott-Elliot pass (4372m asl.), where there are spectacular views of Lake Bujuku and Mount Speke. The trail passes you through an alpine zone of sparse vegetation and rough boulders. Descend past the Kitandara Lakes for dinner and overnight at the Kitandara hut. Descend duration: 3 – 4 hours.

Day 10: KITANDARA (4430m asl.) – GUY YEOMAN (3261m asl.).

From Kitandara, take on the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker. Continue along the south side of the mountain to Fresh field Pass 4282m asl. At this point you can view into the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. From the pass, take on the long high alpine moss. Thereafter descend through steep rocky trails and the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. Have an overnight at Guy yeoman camp. Hike duration: 6 – 7 hours.

Day 11: GUY YEOMAN (3261m asl.) – NYABITABA (2651m asl.)– MIHUNGA GATE (1615m asl.)

Below Guy Yeoman, the route descends the cliffs of Kichuchu. Beyond Kichuchu the muddy path crosses the Mubuku River twice through a bamboo forest before climbing downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit. Descend back to Nyabitaba Camp and then Mihunga gate to be picked by your driver guide for an overnight in Kasese town. Day 12: Game drive in Queen Elizabeth national park.

Have an early morning breakfast and transfer to the Isasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park a spot for the tree climbing lions. This is a 2-3 hour drive to catch a glimpse of the tree climbing lions only visible elsewhere in Kruger national park in South Africa and Lake Manyara national park. Have lunch in the wild or in Ishasha as you prepare to return to Kazinga channel for a boat cruise. Have an evening game drive in the Kasenyi plains or visit  Katwe salt mining village. Experience salt mining and flamingos on Lake Munyanyange in Queen Elizabeth national park before returning to your hotel for an overnight.
